Are you constantly second-guessing your parenting, anxious about whether your child will make good choices and remain faithful? Have you neglected yourself to the point that it’s taken a personal toll on you? If you’re a struggling adoptive parent searching for answers in your parenting journey, you’re in the right place. Hi Neighbor, Welcome to Adoption Struggles and Support. I’m Tim, an adoptive parent and adoption mentor. I too felt the joy of having a family of my own, and I wish we could be like other families. But I found myself up late at night, anxious about my adopted child’s future and asking myself, will my child be okay? Where did I go wrong? It was only by grabbing a lifeline from God and my friends that I was able to navigate the challenges of adoptive life. And now I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned with you. My mission is to teach Christian adoptive parents how to be okay even when their kids aren’t by anchoring them in biblical principles. If you’re ready for real and raw talk with strategies that lead to peace beyond comprehension, so you not only survive, but thrive in life’s storms, this podcast is for you. Do you feel lonely, or overwhelmed? Do you struggle to trust God? Would you like to feel differently? May I suggest you can replace those negative feelings by counting your blessings?
Hi Neighbor!
In the first episode, I shared the story of my son Jonny and the ONE thing he did to learn to like himself again. He journaled.
I would like to begin what I'm hoping will become a regular feature for this podcast... journaling prompts.
In this episode, we’ll look at the song, Count Your Blessings, a hymn by Johnson Oatman, Jr. as a way to replace negative feelings with gratitude.
The lyrics are below.
Count Your Blessings…
Verse 1:When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,Count your many blessings, name them one by one,And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Verse 2:Are you ever burdened with a load of care?Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?Count your many blessings, ev'ry doubt will fly,And you will be singing as the days go by.
Verse 3: So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,Do not be discouraged, God is over all;Count your many blessings, angels will attend,Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.
Refrain:Count your blessings, name them one by one;Count your blessings, see what God hath done;Count your blessings, name them one by one;Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Have you ever struggled with trusting that adoption is what God wants for you? May I suggest that you ask God for clues?
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, I would like to respond to an answer a listener gave me to the following question... What would support you the most RIGHT NOW when it comes to adoptive parenting?
We’ll consider this answer by looking at the clues God gave Gideon in Judges chapters 6-7. And I’ll share one of the clues we received in our adoption journey with the story of the phone call that almost didn't happen.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed? Of course who doesn’t? A better question might be this... When you do feel overwhelmed, what are some ways that you can implement in order to reduce those feelings? May I suggest that you consider taking some micro steps?
Hi Neighbor,
I want to welcome you to a special episode of Anchors of Encouragement. This is going to be a different episode than you’re accustomed to hearing. There’s not going to be any intro or outro music. This is about as basic as I can get to record a podcast episode for you.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of overwhelm and wanted to share that with you.
Hope and Healing are on the way.
Also, I want to congratulate my trainer and friend, Stef Gass for reaching ONE MILLION downloads for her podcast. Wow!

Could you use some more noise in your life? I didn’t think so!
Hi Neighbor!
I don't want to add any more noise to your life. If you're like me, you've got enough noise to go around and then some.
What I would like to do in this episode is to share with you 5 ways you can begin to neutralize the noise in your life starting today.
We’ll reframe the acronym NOISE and consider it in light of scriptures from Acts 17, Jeremiah 6, Psalm 29, and more.

Does life ever feel foggy to you? There's no clear path to take. There’s a lot of uncertainty. It’s hard to see your next step. It can get frustrating and at times even depressing.
Hi Neighbor!
How do adoptive parents navigate through the fog of life? In this special mindset episode of Anchors of Encouragement, I would like to suggest you consider relying on someone with a better vantage point, someone who can shine a light on your path.
We’ll consider this question in light of verses found in Psalm 119, Ecclesiastes 12, Micah 6, and Mark 12.
And finally, make a direct application to the adoption journey from James 1.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Have you ever felt like you were all alone like you were the ONLY one going through a difficult situation? What do you do? Who do you turn to?
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, let’s consider why there can be times when adoptive parents feel like they are all alone and WHY they should consider grabbing hold of an anchor.
NEW FEATURE... I’m also introducing a listener participation section. It’s a way to interact with the content in this episode. I’ll play along with you too, enjoy:)

Imagine the ONE voice you feel the deepest connection with suddenly goes silent.
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, let’s explore that question. I’ll share a personal story about a voice in my life that went silent and how a message from Psalm 139 became a source of healing for me.
I believe adoptive parents can use this same message for healing, comfort, and encouragement with their adopted children.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Could there be a connection between adoption trauma and sugar addiction?
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, I am joined by Dr. Joan Kent. Dr. Kent has a Ph.D. in Psychoactive Nutrition. She was the very first to document the brain chemical pathways of sugar addiction, and to explain the sugar/fat seesaw hormonally and chemically.
Joan has helped hundreds and hundreds of clients with metabolic conditions – diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and cancer – as well as with inflammation and mood issues.
Could there be a connection between adoption trauma and sugar addiction? It’s quite possible. Please listen to find out.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Could it be the struggles you have gone through, have prepared you to encourage someone else?
Hi Neighbor!
Why do bad things happen in life? One might say, that’s just life. But I believe there is a deeper meaning to that question.
In this episode, let’s reframe that narrative. I would like to share a psalm of David, a story in the life of Paul, and a conversation with a queen to show you 3 ways to help someone restore the sparkle in their eyes.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

When I saw it, my heart sank. I thought I had just killed my boys.
Hi Neighbor!
Today I would like to switch up topics a little bit. I’m not going to talk about adoption but I would like to talk about something that is encouraging.
In this podcast, I talk about how to weather storms in life. In this episode, I would like to talk about a weather story. It’s going to start a little dark but stay with me. I believe it will inspire you.
Hope and Healing are on the way.
Your Neighbor,
Tim
