Did you finally realize your dream of having a family, only to have your happily ever after turn into a nightmare? Does your home feel unsafe at times? Are you constantly second-guessing your parenting and asking questions like: Will my adopted child be okay? What does their future hold?

If these questions feel uncomfortably close to home, take a breath — you are not alone, and there is a path forward.

If you’re a struggling adoptive parent searching for answers in your parenting journey, you’re in the right place.

Hi Neighbor,
Welcome to Adoption Struggles and Support. I’m Tim, an adoptive parent, adoption mentor, and ambassador of encouragement.

I too felt the joy of having a family of my own, and I wished we could be like other families. Instead, I found myself up late at night, anxious about my family’s safety and my adopted child’s future.

I kept asking myself: How can I make my home safe and peaceful again? Will my child be okay? Where did I go wrong?

It was only by grabbing a lifeline from God and my friends that I was able to navigate the challenges of adoptive life. And now I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned with you.

My mission is to help Christian adoptive parents create safe and peaceful homes — and learn to be okay even when their kids aren’t — by anchoring their lives in biblical principles.

If you’re ready for real and raw talk with strategies that lead to peace beyond comprehension, so you not only survive but thrive in life’s storms, this podcast is for you.

Anchors of Hope and Healing are on the way.
Your Neighbor,
Tim

Have you ever been so upset about something bad going on in your life that you wish you could fly away? Fly far away to somewhere safe? That’s not unusual. Around 3,000 years ago, the psalmist David felt the same way. There were a lot of bad things going on in his life.
He wished for wings like a dove so that he could fly to his safe place.
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode of Anchors of Encouragement, we’ll consider Psalm 55 and how it is possible to fly to your safe place with wings like a dove. But we’ll be using pen and paper to do it.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

“I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
Hi Neighbor!
In this journaling episode of Anchors of Encouragement, I will combine the quote by Stephen Grellet with the principle in Proverbs 27:17 and share 3 journaling prompts to help adoptive parents become a conduit for kindness.
Get your pen and paper ready because Hope and Healing are on the way.

There is Beauty in Brokenness, especially when one friend shows kindness to another. I would like to encourage you to consider your fellow human beings as your fellow human friends.
Hi Neighbor!
Consider the following with me. Deliberate acts of kindness. Our broken world could use more of them.
But how can this happen? In this episode of Anchors of Encouragement, let’s consider how to go from random acts of kindness to deliberate acts.
And check out Episode 7 for an example of a Deliberate Act of Kindness.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

How would it feel to face your struggles with courage and confidence? If that's something you would like to do, may I suggest you surrender to God?
Hi Neighbor!
In this journaling episode of Anchors of Encouragement, I will share 3 affirmations based on the story of the day I became a Dad from Episode 29 and text from the book of Deuteronomy. These affirmations will help you touch your feelings and surrender your struggles to God.

Only a handful of people know the story you are about to hear. After several prank calls and one ALMOST missed call, we finally connected with a birthmother. Everything was going smoothly or so we thought. Then one day, our attorney called me and said the adoption was OFF!
Hi Neighbor!
Have you ever struggled to trust that adoption is what God wants for you? In this episode, I’ll share the story of when our adoption actually fell through. And the day I became a Dad.
We’ll also consider some verses from the book of Deuteronomy that will help when you’re struggling.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Would you like Hope and Healing during the struggles of life? May I suggest that you anchor yourself to the text?
Hi Neighbor!
What does anchoring yourself to the text mean? In this episode, I will answer that question and share 2 journaling prompts based on the story of Joseph from Episode 27. We’ll also consider a couple of verses from the book of Romans.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Why do bad things happen to good people? Perhaps to understand the answer to that question, requires the perspective of time.
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, we’ll consider the story of Joseph in Genesis and how the perspective of time helped him to understand why he suffered the things he did.
We’ll also look at passages in the books of 1 Corinthians and Romans to understand 3 benefits why good people and adoptive parents suffer.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

I See You! We were miles from where we started. At this point, we were tired but there was no turning back. Then I looked down and saw the encouragement we needed to finish.
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, I want to share two stories of simple things someone did to encourage me. And how it made me realize I wasn’t alone.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Do you feel lonely, or overwhelmed? Do you struggle to trust God? Would you like to feel differently? May I suggest you can replace those negative feelings by counting your blessings?
Hi Neighbor!
In the first episode, I shared the story of my son Jonny and the ONE thing he did to learn to like himself again. He journaled.
I would like to begin what I'm hoping will become a regular feature for this podcast... journaling prompts.
In this episode, we’ll look at the song, Count Your Blessings, a hymn by Johnson Oatman, Jr. as a way to replace negative feelings with gratitude.
The lyrics are below.
Count Your Blessings…
Verse 1:When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,Count your many blessings, name them one by one,And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Verse 2:Are you ever burdened with a load of care?Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?Count your many blessings, ev'ry doubt will fly,And you will be singing as the days go by.
Verse 3: So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,Do not be discouraged, God is over all;Count your many blessings, angels will attend,Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.
Refrain:Count your blessings, name them one by one;Count your blessings, see what God hath done;Count your blessings, name them one by one;Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

Have you ever struggled with trusting that adoption is what God wants for you? May I suggest that you ask God for clues?
Hi Neighbor!
In this episode, I would like to respond to an answer a listener gave me to the following question... What would support you the most RIGHT NOW when it comes to adoptive parenting?
We’ll consider this answer by looking at the clues God gave Gideon in Judges chapters 6-7. And I’ll share one of the clues we received in our adoption journey with the story of the phone call that almost didn't happen.
Hope and Healing are on the way.
