Did you finally realize your dream of having a family, only to have your happily ever after turn into a nightmare? Does your home feel unsafe at times? Are you constantly second-guessing your parenting and asking questions like: Will my adopted child be okay? What does their future hold?

If these questions feel uncomfortably close to home, take a breath — you are not alone, and there is a path forward.

If you’re a struggling adoptive parent searching for answers in your parenting journey, you’re in the right place.

Hi Neighbor,
Welcome to Adoption Struggles and Support. I’m Tim, an adoptive parent, adoption mentor, and ambassador of encouragement.

I too felt the joy of having a family of my own, and I wished we could be like other families. Instead, I found myself up late at night, anxious about my family’s safety and my adopted child’s future.

I kept asking myself: How can I make my home safe and peaceful again? Will my child be okay? Where did I go wrong?

It was only by grabbing a lifeline from God and my friends that I was able to navigate the challenges of adoptive life. And now I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned with you.

My mission is to help Christian adoptive parents create safe and peaceful homes — and learn to be okay even when their kids aren’t — by anchoring their lives in biblical principles.

If you’re ready for real and raw talk with strategies that lead to peace beyond comprehension, so you not only survive but thrive in life’s storms, this podcast is for you.

Anchors of Hope and Healing are on the way.
Your Neighbor,
Tim

He faced one discouraging obstacle after another, yet through it all, he persisted. How did he do it? First, he partnered with God.
Hi Neighbor!⁣
In this episode of Anchors of Encouragement, I’m going to begin a new feature on the podcast. Each week I would like to bring to you a journaling exercise. I’m calling these Pen-to-Paper Journaling Prompts.
They are based on my own journaling experience.
This episode’s journaling prompt is inspired by the story of one of my favorite Bible characters.
I’ll also share with you an easy way to begin journaling even if you have never done it before. Plus how you can persist with pen-to-paper in order to partner with God.
And so much more.
Hope and Healing are on the way.
Your Neighbor,⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Tim⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
P.S. Here are a couple of my favorite Bible Apps for comparing translations. YouVersion and Blue Letter Bible

In this episode, I would like to consider three ways adoptive parents can find support and peace in the storms of life. These three ways are basically three safe harbors in which you can find support.
⁣Plus I’ll share a BONUS harbor that is quickly becoming my go-to place for support. And as always, we’ll end with your Daily Doable.⁣

Life has just sucker punched you. It's late at night. You're alone with your thoughts and you cannot process the pain that you're in. What do you do? May I suggest that you reach out to a Nocturnal Anchor?
Hi Neighbor!
Stuff happens in life, but not on our timetable. It seems to happen at the most inopportune time, but it's how we react and what we do that makes the difference or can make the difference in how we're able to process the pain.
In this episode, consider with me 3 Reasons Why It’s Good to Reach Out to a Nocturnal Anchor?
And…
What is a Nocturnal Anchor?
What qualities should a person look for in a Nocturnal Anchor?
What are the Benefits and Blessings of a Nocturnal Anchor?
Plus your Daily Doable.
Hope and Healing are on the way.

A Conversation With Adoption Trauma Therapist, Jane Baker
Hi Neighbor!⁣⁣⁣⁣
This is Part 2 of my interview with Jane Baker. If you haven’t listened to Part 1, you can catch that in Episode 8.
As an adoptive parent, there were many times I doubted myself. I thought I had failed my boys. That kind of thinking does not serve you or your family well.
This episode is very TACTICAL. Jane will discuss treatment options for adoption trauma and some of the qualities you should look for in a therapist.
All that and SO MUCH MORE!
Hope and Healing are on the way.
TAKEAWAYS…
In some adopted children, you see a Pervasive Pursuit of Life on their terms.
As a parent, tell your adopted child you understand WHY they behave the way they do. It’s NOT okay but you understand.
When you have more conflict in your home than you desire, the whole family needs o go to therapy.
A therapist CAN NOT take you any further than they have been.
When you've gotten to the place where you tried everything and you're not getting the result you need, it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you as a parent. It means you need more tools in your toolbox.

A Conversation With Adoption Trauma Therapist, Jane Baker
Hi Neighbor!⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣In this episode, I'm excited to introduce to you, my neighbor from Alabama, Jane Baker. Jane will be talking about adoption and adoption trauma.
One thing you’re going to notice right away is Jane’s passion for adopted kids. It was her passion that made a huge difference in my son’s life and my family.
Jane was a member of the treatment team for my son when he was away from us at the Residential Treatment Center for Teens.
I know my son wouldn't be where he is today had it not been for people like Jane as he was coming to terms with his adoption trauma.
This is a Must-Listen episode. You’re going to want to take notes. There’s so much here.
Make sure to listen until the end.
Hoping and Healing are on the way!
TAKEAWAYS...
Adoption is as normal as rain. It's just different.
Babies experience what their birth mothers experience.
If you could weigh adoption trauma on a scale, the intensity of behaviors on one side and the intensity of loss on the other side will ALWAYS balance out.
When children are placed for adoption, there is a wound that goes along with them... whatever it is, they have to do the healing part.
For some children, it’s a bigger struggle than for others.

Ever Said Something Out of Anger or Frustration? Become a Paper Tiger Instead?
Hi Neighbor!
Have you ever said something out of anger or frustration and as soon as it left your mouth, you wish you could take it back?
Been there and done that more times than I care to remember.
In this episode, I want to encourage you to become a Paper Tiger instead. But not a paper tiger in the traditional sense. We’ll consider a different take on this metaphor as we look at the Self-Awareness Anchor.
